In this MD Newsline exclusive interview with dermatologist Dr. Valerie Harvey, we discuss vitiligo treatment disparities.

MD Newsline:

What disparities in diagnosing and treating vitiligo have you observed in your clinical practice and research?

Dr. Valerie Harvey:

“Diagnosing vitiligo is pretty straightforward. But I think we need to do a better job of educating clinicians on how to treat and manage patients with vitiligo. I’ve had many patients come see me after being told by other dermatologists that nothing can be done for them.

We have effective treatments for vitiligo, but not all dermatologists are trained to treat vitiligo. So, we need to educate dermatologists and also primary care physicians on vitiligo treatment and disease prognosis, so we can give our patients the treatment and support that they deserve.”
